The Stacks NFT scene is experiencing steady growth, though recent launches by the CrashPunks and Megapont Ape Club teams have been spoiled by smart contract and API issues.
CrashPunks
The CrashPunks project, a profile picture NFT collection by Stacks Accelerator partner Trevor Owens, launched on Dec 11. Many were minted to whitelisted users and pre-launch partners, followed by a brief public mint for the rest of the collection.
Right after minting out, problems started surfacing on Twitter regarding sales on 3rd party marketplaces, plus a web bug that allowed some users to mint in excess of their allocation. The CrashPunks team tweeted below and began working on fixes.
Later, Trevor wrote a post-mortem on his Medium, describing issues with the NFT smart contract and outlining a proposed series of fixes including a transition to a V2 smart contract.
The V2 contract has been developed and deployed. The converted CrashPunks were revealed on Dec. 24 with no further reports of problems.
Megapont Ape Club
Megapont Ape Club, the defacto STX “blue chip” with over 1,000,000 STX trading volume since launch, was also affected. The developers recently debuted their Megapont Robot Factory collection. This limited edition mint was available for original Ape NFT holders only, but had an extra perk — each robot NFT came with a free “crate” with 10 randomly assigned accessories that could be attached to the robot in a semi-permanent way. Each accessory is also an NFT that can be sold on secondary marketplaces or traded between users directly.
In addition to the free crates, an additional 10,000 crates were available to verified robot holders.
The only catch? The official Hiro Systems API, which facilities web integration with the Stacks blockchain, experienced availability issues immediately after launch. These issues persisted for several days, which caused many Megapont users to be unable to mint any additional crates, and some were even unable to mint a robot in the first place.
Muneeb Ali of Hiro took to Twitter to update the community on their progress fixing the backend issues:
Stacks NFTs — Almost Ready for Prime Time!
The Stacks NFT ecosystem has experienced a lot of growth recently, and it’s clear that demand is present, given the huge success of Megapont Ape Club. If Hiro and other API developers can keep up, the Stacks NFT future is bright.
